Finding a Pharmacy
Many local or mail-order pharmacies provide pre-packaged medication services. We recommend contacting your pharmacy to inquire about this option. Please ensure you allow enough time for the pharmacy to prepare the medications before check-in day. Most pharmacies will package both prescribed and “over-the-counter” medications together, provided you have a prescription for all of the requested medications.
What Medications Need to be Packaged?
Any medications in pill form that your child will take at camp must be packaged. Packaging should be arranged so that each package contains the exact dosage and medications needed to be taken: ie all breakfast/morning medication should be packaged together.
Vitamins and supplements in pill form must also be included in the package. Please speak with your pharmacist to include these.
Medications that are not in pill form (ie liquids, inhalers, injectables, epi-pens) do not need to be packaged and should arrive at camp in their original packaging.
Our health center keeps common medications in stock for our nurses to distribute as needed. Please indicate that your child can take these medications on their health history form. Do not package these medications with your child’s prescriptions.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement this process, which allows our nurses to focus more on camper care. If you have any questions or need assistance in finding a pharmacy, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
International Campers: Please contact our office to discuss medication packaging options.

Unlike many summer camps, Lake in the Woods Sleepaway Camp has access to the beautiful dorm style housing at Blair Academy.
Our dorms are divided into halls. In each hall, there is a shared bathroom, and 5-8 rooms. Depending on the building, campers will either have their own room, or have a room with a roommate. Each hall will have 2-3 camp counselors.
Campers are divided into their halls based on their gender and grade. We will try to honor mutual housing requests, but they are not guaranteed. Bunkmate requests can be made at the time of registration.
Campers are well supervised in the summer, with counselors leading activities, present during transition times, and living in the dorm halls with the campers.
We follow the American Camp Association guidelines for camper to staff ratios, which are stricter than the New Jersey and Warren County standards.
Having a unique camp that begins Monday morning and ends Friday afternoon also means having unique transportation needs. We provide free transportation from NYC and Livingston, NJ.
During the registration process, you'll choose your bus stop. Families can also elect to drop off their children in Blairstown on Monday morning or pick up on Friday evening.
Each weekend, campers can register for a holdover weekend. Registered campers will head to our sister camp, Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, in Stillwater, NJ for a camping adventure. Fairview Lake is 20 minutes from Lake in the Woods.
While on their holdover, campers will stay in seasonal cabins and enjoy meals at the Fairview Lake dining hall. Activities like boating, archery, fishing, climbing, and more will be available.

No. Campers are not permitted to have cellphones or other internet connected devices. We’re proudly unplugged at Lake in the Woods. Without phones, tablets, or personal devices, campers are free to focus on real connections—with nature, their friends, and themselves. This break from screens fosters creativity, mindfulness, and friendships that feel even more meaningful. And while they may miss their devices at first, campers quickly discover that the best kind of connection happens face-to-face, around a campfire, in a canoe, or during a silly game.
Feeling homesick is a natural part of growing up, especially during a camper’s first few nights away from home. At Lake in the Woods YMCA Camps, we’re ready for it. Our staff are trained to support campers with empathy, encouragement, and plenty of fun distractions. Counselors create a warm, welcoming space where every child feels included and valued. If a camper is having a tough time adjusting, we’ll partner with families to help them settle in and thrive. With a little time and a lot of care, most campers find their groove and grow in ways that surprise even them.
Yes! There’s something special about getting a letter at camp—and we make sure every camper gets the chance to experience it. Families can send letters by mail or drop them off during check in to be delivered throughout their stay. Campers are encouraged to write back home, sharing stories, doodles, and updates on their favorite camp adventures. It’s a great way to stay in touch while giving campers a sense of independence and excitement.
Please remember that we cannot guarantee mail delivery for things mailed late in the week! Double check that you've allowed enough time for the post office to get your letter to Blairstown!

Campers taking the bus will meet at one of our three designated bus stops. Please be on time (or early!) so that we can have an on-time departure. Campers should arrive having eaten breakfast. At check in, your child will have a brief health screening, including a lice check and a temperature screening.
We are planning 3 bus pick up locations this summer: Livingston, Wayne, and Lower Manhattan.
